There is no one size fits all in dog training, unfortunately it is not black and white, that is why it is important to create a training program tailored to you and your dog. What works for you may not work for the next person or dog, and that is why the first step to establishing the right training program for you and your dog is an in home behaviour assessment. During this session your dog will be assessed in its own environment and I will then be able to tailor a training program to your individual dog and families needs. I will also spend time to explain why this program will work for you, it is important that you understand why the methods used will work and that will enable you to not only modify your dogs behaviour now, but also to maintain it in the long term.
how old should my dog be?
No dog is too old or too young to be trained.
I am a firm believer that prevention is better than cure, for this reason I have set up a specialised program to get puppies settled in to your home and on the right track from day one. If this is followed through from the time your new puppy enters the home you can prevent serious behavioural problems from developing
On the other hand if you have an older dog do not let anyone tell you they are too old to be trained.
I work with all ages from puppies through to adolescent dogs, through to the more mature!
- Separation Anxiety
- Toilet Training
- Pulling on Lead
- Not Coming when Called
These are just some of the problems I see on a daily basis. If your dog is displaying any of these it is important to understand they will not simply grow out of it or go away over time without intervention.
Dogs are continuously communicating with us as dogs, if your dog is displaying any of the above behaviours it is important to acknowledge there is a problem. At this point call in a balanced dog behavioural trainer to help you understand the psychology behind your dogs behaviour and how to help restore balance to yours and your dogs lives.
1 on 1 real world training
Initially all training is conducted in a one on one scenario. The program is tailored to your dogs and families needs, wants and problems. This ensures you can ask all the questions you need, take it all at your own pace and achieve the goals you need to in a way that suits your family and your dog.
I have heard time and time again that "my dog is great in class but I still can't control it on a walk". So after the initial assessment we head out to solve real world problems and give you the tools to get your dog into the real world situations you would like, all while having me by your side to support and assist you.
walk and train
One of the things I hear all too often from clients is either "I am too busy to walk my dog" or "I can't walk my dog as it is so bad on lead".
Never fear!! After our initial one on one consult I have a special service for all my clients.
I will come and not only walk your dog but also train it at the same time.
It is important to remember your dog should be getting daily mental and physical exercise. Their behavioural problems will not be rehabilitated simply with one or two walk and train sessions per week. This is simply adding a little extra to the everyday training the dog receives at home.
You must also follow through with the rest of the training program, this is simply to give you a day off here and there!
